Get a library card

You need a valid library card to borrow materials from the Library. You can get the Library card on your phone if you are a student (including Open University students) or staff member at JYU.

Another option is to fill in the form. Sign in using your JYU user account. Your form will be processed in a maximum of 2 working days.

  • If you already have a library card from another library or a JYU staff ID card, you can use it as a library card in our library. When you fill in the barcode number of this card on the form, the library card will start working automatically in two working days. You will not get a notice about this and no visit to the library is needed.
  • If you do not have another card, you can pick up a new one from the service point of the library after 2 working days. Please bring an ID card with you.

The card is free of charge. If you need to replace a lost library card, the charge is €3.

Your library card is personal

Your library card is personal and must be presented when borrowing materials. As a cardholder, you are responsible for the loans made on your card, and you agree to follow the rules and regulations of the Library.

Linking your library card to your university user account and PIN code

You can renew your loans and place requests in the JYKDOK database.

  • If you are a JYU student or member of staff, you can sign in to JYKDOK with your university user account. To do this, your library card must first be linked to your user account. For new library customers, this is done at the library service desk at the same time when the card is activated. You can also do it by yourself.
  • If you are not a JYU student or member of staff, you can sign into JYKDOK with your library card number and personal PIN code. The PIN code is available at the library service desk. If you have forgotten your PIN, contact the library or try the default code, which is the first four numbers of your date of birth (DDMM).

Lost library card or change of address

In order to prevent unauthorized use, please inform the library staff immediately if you lose your library card. There is a charge for a replacement card.
