Niilo Mäki Collection

Niilo MäkiProfessor Niilo Mäki held Finland’s first psychology professorship (1936–1939), set up in Jyväskylä. In 1948, he was appointed to a professorship in special education (then known as “protection and improvement pedagogy”), also established in Jyväskylä. The post was the first of its kind in Europe.

After Professor Niilo Mäki’s death in 1968, his widow Onerva Mäki donated Professor Mäki’s extensive personal book collection to the Jyväskylä University Library.

The Niilo Mäki Collection is housed at the Collection Centre. The collection contains some 1,300 volumes. Most of them are special education literature acquired from abroad.

Books in the Mäki Collection are listed in the JYKDOK library collection database.
