Incunabula

The oldest works in the Jyväskylä University library date back to the 15th century. These rare books, printed in the early days of typography before 1501, are called incunabula, which is a Latin term meaning “swaddling clothes” or “cradle”. The collection also includes the only Finnish incunabla, the Missale Aboense, the first book printed for Finland in 1488 in Lübeck.
