Where can I find textbooks? How can I get a library card?

When you need a textbook, go to JYKDOK database. There you can see which books we have and where you can find them. Textbooks, as well as field-specific literature, are located on the lower basement floor of Lähde. Our staff will help you when needed.

Many of our textbooks are available as e-books, and you can find them via JYKDOK. When you log in to JYKDOK with your JYU user account, you can access e-books and other e-materials. E-books can usually be downloaded on a laptop or mobile device. Tips for using e-books can be found on our help page.

You can borrow printed books as soon as you have obtained your library card. The easiest way is to activate a mobile library card in the MyJYU app. The card is immediately available to you and no visit to the library is required.

When the library card starts to work, you can renew your loans and make reservations on books that are on loan for someone else.

Working spaces and computers

There is plenty of working space in Lähde: reading places, work stations and group workspaces. You can book group work rooms in Navi application. Silent reading rooms can be found in 2nd and 3rd floor.

There is more working space in other University buildings, for example in Aalto Library in the University Main Building (C). The Library’s reference collection is also located in Aalto Library.

In Seminaarinmäki, Fennicum and room 139 in Opinkivi are available for students’ use daily. Entry is with an access keycard. Several of the University’s buildings have computer classrooms, which can be used whenever there are no lessons. You can use your own laptop since there is a wireless network on the campus area.

Get to know the library

The best way to get started as a user of our library services is to attend the library info session on Friday, 30 August at 9.30-10.00. The info session is arranged in the Main Building (building C, hall C1) and via zoom.

In Moodle learning environment you can find Library Start-up, which helps you learn the basics of library use and information seeking.
