  • Sat 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Sun 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Up-to-date opening and service hours can be seen on our web page. We will inform about exceptions in our opening hours also on social media.

Please remember to wear a mask, use hand sanitizer and keep safe distances when visiting Lähde.

Where can I find textbooks?

When you need a textbook, go to JYKDOK database. There you can see which books we have and where you can find them. Textbooks, as well as field-specific literature, are located on the lower basement floor of Lähde. Our staff will help you when needed.

Many of our textbooks are available as e-books, and you can find them via JYKDOK. When you log in to JYKDOK with your JYU user account, you can access e-books and other e-materials. E-books can usually be downloaded on a laptop or mobile device. Tips for using e-books can be found in the Library Tutorial.

You can borrow printed books as soon as you have obtained your library card. You can apply for a library card remotely by filling in this form (login with JYU user account). Please note that the library card will usually start working 1-2 working days after you have sent the form. When the library card starts to work, you can renew your loans and make reservations on books that are on loan for someone else.

Working spaces and computers

There is plenty of working space in Lähde: reading places and group workspaces. The delivery of computers has been delayed, and in the beginning there will be only a few computers for customer use. More computers will be set up during September and October, and the building will be equipped gradually during the autumn. The official opening ceremonies will be held in January 2022.

There is more working space in other University buildings, for example in Aalto Library in the University Main Building (C). The Library’s reference collection is also located in Aalto Library.

In Seminaarinmäki, Fennicum and room 139 in Opinkivi are available for students’ use daily. Entry is with an access key. Several of the University’s buildings have computer classrooms, which can be used whenever there are no lessons. You can use your own laptop since there is a wireless network on the campus area.

Get to know the library on an online course

In Moodle learning environment you can find Library Start-up, which helps you learn the basics of library use and information seeking. Library Start-up is part of a more extensive course Preorientation for new students, which new students complete in the beginning of studies together with their tutors. You can also complete the course independently.

You can also attend the library info session on Wednesday, 25 August at 11:00 a.m. via Zoom. See more detailed programme and link.
