Invisible Experts - Photo Exhibition - CLOSED

Jussi Rinta-Hoiska's photo exhibition Invisible Experts presents 11 deaf, sign language professionals, who are experts in their field, but may be invisible to the world because of their deafness. A project shot with a film camera takes the viewer deep into the heart of person with sign language.

The idea for the exhibition came when Jussi Rinta-Hoiska photographed Liisa Kauppi, the honorary president of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), who has also been awarded the UN Human Rights Prize. With his photos of ordinary atmosphere, Rinta-Hoiska wants to tell you that deaf life can be as normal as hearing, and that everything is possible for them as well as for anyone.

Jussi Rinta-Hoiska used a film camera for the photos in her exhibition because he finds film photography more challenging than digital photography, for example, because every shot has to be carefully planned before pressing the shutter button. The final result is visible only after the images have been developed.

The exhibition will be on display from January 15 to March 14, 2020 at the Soihtu Exhibition Center (S Building).
The Exhibition Center is open Mon-Fri 12 am-5pm, Sat 12 am-5pm. Free entry.
