Publishing at the University of Jyväskylä
The University of Jyväskylä publishes over two hundred publications a year. In addition to six research series published by the university, there are over fifty research series published by the departments and separate institutes.
The research series published by the university mainly include dissertations. In order to publish in one of the research series published by a department or a separate institute, it is best to contact the publishing unit of the department or institute directly. In the case of a monograph, a publishing proposal can be made to the Library Publishing Unit or to the department responsible for the discipline in question.
The University research series includes both electronic and printed publications. The practice varies for other research series, so it is best to ask either the editor of the series or the department for further details.
ISBN (International Standard Book Number)
Each publication has to have its own ISBN. Usually the ISBN is provided by the editor of the research series. The Library's Collections Department gives out ISBNs for all publications published at Jyväskylä University. (More about the ISBN: http://www.nationallibrary.fi/publishers.html). ISBN control copies of all Jyväskylä University publications must be sent to the University Library immediately after printing.
The publication can be printed at the Jyväskylä University Printing House, for example. The services of the Printing House also include the printing and binding of Master's theses, cost price books, envelopes and headed notepaper, annual reports, study materials, laser colour copies and printouts, call cards, etc.
Two (2) ISBN control copies with information about the publication should be sent to the Fennica Cataloguing Unit (B 223) of Jyväskylä University Library. If the publication has been printed elsewhere, eight (8) copies should be send to the Library's Publishing Unit (B 220) for university library exchange. Jyväskylä University Printing House sends the exchange copies of its own publications. There are separate instructions for the distribution of dissertations.

Services within the University
The Publishing Unit also offers University departments and separate institutes publication sale and distribution services. Our service concept extends from publication production to invoicing and distribution logistics. The University's online publishing has been concentrated to the University's Digital Archive JYX. JYX offers permanent archiving and international visibility to departmental online publications.
Centralized recording of publications (TUTKA)
Starting from April 2014, JyU Library will record all publications to TUTKA recearch database. This means that researchers notify JyU Library of their publications and the Library completes and enters the information to TUTKA. There is no need for the researchers to record their publications themselves into TUTKA. The researchers are, however, still responsible for notifying JyU Library of their publications.
