Renovation of the University Library Starts in 2019

Jyväskylä University Library since 1974

The renovation of the Jyväskylä University Library, designed by architect Arto Sipinen (1936-2017), starts in spring 2019. The Library has operated in the building since 1974.

In the renovation, the traditional library will be transformed into a new, vibrant and architecturally unique meeting place – a versatile learning centre for both the university community and the public. The new building will combine various university services, the Library and the University Museum among others. JYU Library and the Museum merged into the Open Science Centre (osc.jyu.fi) in the beginning of 2017.

During the renovation, the library services will be located to the Mattilanniemi and Ylistönrinne Campus Libraries and in Aalto Library in the university Main building (C). Museum services will remain in Seminarium, building G and Vesilinna situated in the Harju ridge.

The goal of the renovation is to build a bridge between the university and the surrounding society, and to create an active building for different groups of users. Due to dynamic science and art events and high-quality exhibitions, the new building will be an interesting destination for citizens as well as for tourists.
