The University Library at the Jyväskylä Book Fair

As part of the University Library’s centennial celebration, the Library participated in the Jyväskylä Book Fair in March. The Library had a stand alongside its Publishing Unit, a yearly participant at the Fair.

At the Book Fair we reminisced the Library’s 100 years by decorating interiors from different ages. Some showpieces worth mentioning include: a Continental typewriter from the early 20th century, and the special table designed for the typewriter artefacts designed by Alvar Aalto. Aalto designed also the interiors for his buildings. The Library was situated in the wing of the University Main Building in 1958-1974. artefacts from the 1970’s in retro colours! Many of these are still in use at the library.

At the Book Fair we also sold valuable old books: local histories, old travel books, calendars, maps and some true rarities, which were admired by collectors and bibliophiles.
