The Niilo Mäki Collection

Professor Niilo Mäki held Finland’s first psychology professorship (1936-1939), set up in Jyväskylä. In 1948, he was appointed to a professorship in special education (protection and improvement pedagogy) also set up in Jyväskylä. The post was the first of its kind in Europe.

After Professor Niilo Mäki’s death in 1977, his widow Onerva Mäki donated professor Mäki’s extensive personal book collection to the university library. The Niilo Mäki Collection is housed on the bottom floor of the closed stacks. The collection contains some 1,300 volumes. Most of them are special education literature acquired from abroad.

Books in the Mäki Collection are listed in the JYKDOK library catalogue.
