Accessibility at the University of Jyväskylä

The University of Jyväskylä aims to improve the accessibility of its services and facilities by removing any barriers that may hinder the students and staff from concentrating on their work or study.

Jyväskylä University Library Lähde (building B) is located approximately a 15-minute walk away from the city centre. You can reach the Library from the Jyväskylä Travel Centre by foot or by wheelchair. On the campuses, there are several parking spaces for persons with disabilities.

Accessibility has been taken into consideration well in the Library building. Lifts and specially equipped toilets are available for those persons using a wheelchair. When necessary, please contact the janitors of the building.

The library staff is ready to assist you in using the collections.

Electronic services

You can use electronic services and collections from outside of the university network (see remote use). It is also possible to increase the font size of the internet browser to make reading text easier. The Library web pages conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines W3C/WAI-A.

Celia Library’s student services

Celia is the national centre for accessible literature and publishing in Finland. Celia produces and distributes literature in accessible formats, such as talking books and braille books.

Celia also produces textbooks (course books) in accessible formats for all educational levels. Celia’s books are available online as well as on CD and a variety of other physical media.

Students with print disabilities can borrow textbooks from Celia free of charge.

Longer loan period for course books

Students with dyslexia or other learning difficulties can borrow course books for a three-week loan period. To get the longer loan period, please contact Tuula Maijanen.
