In Mattilanniemi there is a pick-up point for reserved books. How can I order books there?

You can place orders by logging in to JYKDOK with your university credentials (Haka IDs) or with your library card barcode and password (PIN code). Place a Request button appears in case the books are available for request.

The books can be picked up from the main door of Mattilanniemi A-building after you have received an arrival notice by email.

We hope that you will order only material that is absolutely necessary for your studies, teaching and research, as our delivery capacity is limited due to the current situation.

I am not a JYU student. Can I borrow books from the Library?

Yes, you can. From the beginning of June we serve also non-university clients. Please place orders in advance in JYKDOK. Reading room copies from the Collection Centre cannot be borrowed.

When is the pick-up point open?

The pick-up point is currently open Mon-Fri from 10 am to 5 pm. In June the pick-up point is open Mon from 11 am to 5 pm, Tue-Fri from 11 am to 4 pm. See the opening hours in summer.

Can books be returned, and if so, where or how?

You can return books to the MaA building’s drop-box 24 hours a day.

It is also possible to return books by post to:

Jyväskylä University Library / Returns, PL 35 (MaA),  40014 UNIVERSITY OF JYVÄSKYLÄ

Please note that post may be slower than normal.

Is it possible to borrow reading room copies from the Collection Center for home loan?

It is possible with certain restrictions, eg. material in poor condition we cannot lend. You can order material if you are a JYU student or staff. The loan period is 28 days (for staff longer) and the loan can be renewed three times.

You can place a request to a book via JYKDOK. When you receive an arrival notice by email the book is available for pick-up. You will also be notified if the book cannot be borrowed.

We hope that you will order only material that is absolutely necessary for your studies, teaching and research, because our delivery capacity is limited due to the current situation.

Please handle the material as carefully as possible to avoid damaging it.

I have books for reading room use in a storage place in Mattilanniemi Library. Can I borrow them too?

These can also be borrowed for home loan with certain restrictions. You can send a message about the books you need to jykneuvonta@library.jyu.fi

I don't have a library card, can I borrow books?

We are able to make new library cards from the beginning of June. Please, ask more information by email jykneuvonta@library.jyu.fi

You can use e-resources with your university credentials (Haka ID) if you are a JYU student or staff. Open university students also have access to e-resources.

I have a book reserved for me at the pick-up point, but I can't pick it up myself. Can my friend get it for me?

Yes. Please, send a message to jykneuvonta@library.jyu.fi and tell us your personal information (name, library card number etc.) and which book is reserved for you. You can also tell who will pick up the book if it is already known.

Are books currently accruing overdue fines if they are late? I've been quarantined and I cannot return them.

Fines still accrue because we have a pick-up service and books can be borrowed. Try to renew your loans. If renewal is not possible due to reservations, you can contact customer service jykneuvonta@library.jyu.fi

I have overdue fines. Can I pay them online?

You can pay fees over €3,00 online through JYKDOK. If the amount is under €3,00, you can pay them, for example, when you visit the Library the next time when it will be open normally. No additional fines will accrue for books already returned, and any interest will not increase the amount of fines.

Can I print or copy at the Library or anywhere at the Campus?

The University has opened a printing service for students. You can send the files to be printed to printingrequests@jyu.fi. Please order only the prints you absolutely need, but not any confidential material. For more information visit: https://kirjasto.jyu.fi/corona/corona-news/printouts

All buildings at the University Campus are closed and you cannot use multifunction devices or computers yourself.

Can I order books from other libraries?

Ordering is possible with certain restrictions. Many libraries around the world are closed because of the pandemic situation.

You can order articles handily from the Depository Library in Kuopio. You can find more detailed instructions for ordering articles in JYKDOK.

Can I renew my interlibrary loans?

The due dates of the interlibrary loans have been postponed if possible. You can also request a renewal from kaukopal@library.jyu.fi

I am searching for a certain ebook in JYKDOK but I could not find it. Is there anything to be done? I cannot borrow printed books from the Library.

You can make us a Acquisition Request for the ebook. If the ebook is available for purchase, we usually try to buy it to our collections.
